Iran warns war with US could resume amid ceasefire tensions

Fresh tensions rise as Tehran signals possible return to conflict with Washington.

A senior Iranian military official has warned that war with the United States is “likely” to resume, despite recent claims by Donald Trump that hostilities have ended. The statement highlights growing uncertainty around the fragile ceasefire between Iran and US-Israeli forces.

Iranian military deputy Mohammad Jafar Asadi said the armed forces are fully prepared for renewed conflict, accusing the US of not being committed to agreements. His comments come after Trump informed Congress that hostilities had “terminated” following a ceasefire announced in April, which has since been extended without a final peace deal.

The warning underscores ongoing tensions, as negotiations between Iran and the US have stalled, and no long-term resolution has been reached. Meanwhile, a US naval blockade remains in place, and shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz is still heavily disrupted.

The conflict began with large-scale US-Israeli strikes on Iran in February, followed by retaliatory actions that escalated tensions across the region.

With both sides maintaining military readiness, the ceasefire remains fragile and the risk of renewed war continues to loom.
