The woman who accused Jay-Z of rape has now withdrawn her allegations against the rapper.
In a new declaration, Jane Doe said she never met or spoke to Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. She also admitted that her claims against him were false.
“Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter never raped me. I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter never engaged in any inappropriate conduct toward me whatsoever,” she wrote.
“There is no truth to any of my claims against Mr. Carter,” she added.
“I understand my false accusations have caused Mr. Carter immense pain, suffering, and damage that can never be fully undone.”
Woman Apologises To Jay-Z
The 12-page declaration was filed in Manhattan federal court on September 24. She said nobody promised her money for making the statement.
Her new lawyer, James Blair Newman Jr., said she still believes she suffered sexual assault. However, he said she wrongly identified Jay-Z as her attacker.
“Our client maintains that she was a victim of sexual assault, but she was entirely mistaken in her allegations identifying Mr. Carter, and those allegations were false,” Newman said.
“Mr. Carter did not rape her, sexually assault her, engage in any inappropriate conduct towards her, and she has never met him. She sincerely and unconditionally apologizes to Mr. Carter and his family.”
The woman previously sued Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs in late 2024. She alleged that Combs raped her when she was 13. She also accused an unnamed male celebrity of sexual assault.
How Jay-Z Became Involved
According to her latest declaration, the case began after she responded to a Facebook advert seeking people with sexual assault claims against Combs.
She said the advert triggered memories of an assault when she was 13. She later told lawyers she attended a celebrity afterparty in New York in 2000.
However, her story contained inconsistencies. Her lawsuit initially mentioned the Teen Choice Awards before later referring to the MTV Video Music Awards.
She also claimed her lawyers gave her $1,200 in cash during a December 2024 trip to Houston. She said they later asked her to take a polygraph test.
By January 2025, she said she had started questioning her own claims against Jay-Z.
“I also began doubting that I ever went to a party with celebrities,” she wrote.
She eventually dismissed her lawsuit against Jay-Z and Combs.
Buzbee Disputes Her New Account
Jay-Z had accused lawyer Tony Buzbee and his firm of using the allegations to pressure him into a financial settlement.
His malicious-prosecution case against Buzbee remains in New York.
Buzbee said he had not seen Jane Doe’s latest declaration when Rolling Stone contacted him.
“We have multiple lawyers (at least four) who dealt with Ms. Doe long before she met me. She gave the exact same story to each. If for some reason now she is claiming she lied to us and the court, that’s new information,” Buzbee said.
Meanwhile, a California appeals court recently upheld the dismissal of Jay-Z’s extortion lawsuit against Buzbee.
The latest declaration now adds another major development to the long-running legal battle.
