Leeds United and Rangers co-owner Jed York has been jailed in Ohio after being arrested in connection with a prostitution investigation.
York (45) who is also the owner of the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers, pleaded no contest to charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. He was sentenced to one day in jail for each offence, with the sentences to run concurrently. He was given credit for time already served.
York was also fined $150 for disorderly conduct and $1,000 for possessing criminal tools. In Ohio, a no-contest plea allows a defendant to accept a conviction without formally admitting guilt.
York Arrested in Prostitution Investigation
Court records show that the case was brought by the East Palestine Police Department and filed at Columbiana County Municipal Court on Monday.
York entered his no-contest pleas during an arraignment hearing and was subsequently found guilty. An expungement request was also filed and denied on the same day. An expungement is a legal process through which criminal records may be sealed or destroyed, making them inaccessible to the public.
According to US media reports citing court documents, York responded to an advertisement on a prostitution website that had been posted by undercover officers working with an Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force.
The documents reportedly state that York arranged to engage in sexual activity with a woman in exchange for $140 (£103). The original charge was reduced as part of a plea agreement to disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. The latter offence is believed to relate to the phone York allegedly used to respond to the advertisement.
York’s Links to Rangers and Leeds
York became a co-owner of Rangers through 49ers Enterprises, the investment arm associated with the San Francisco 49ers.
The US consortium, led by businessman Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, completed its takeover of Rangers in May 2025. This came after acquiring a controlling 51% stake in the Scottish Premiership club. Cavenagh became Rangers chairman, while 49ers Enterprises took a leading role in the club’s ownership. York is not involved in the day-to-day running of Rangers.
Rangers and Leeds United have both declined to comment on the matter. The San Francisco 49ers said: “As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time.”

York’s Role With The 49ers
York is the chief executive and principal owner of the San Francisco 49ers. The NFL said it was aware of the case and that it would be reviewed under the league’s personal conduct policy.
“As an NFL owner, York is subject to league policies,” the league said.
49ers Enterprises first invested in Leeds United in 2018, when the club was playing in the Championship. Its involvement increased as Leeds returned to the Premier League in 2020 after a 16-year absence. This was before the investment group assumed full control of the club in 2023.
The latest legal development therefore puts renewed attention on one of the most prominent figures connected to both American and British professional sports.
