Judy Austin Takes Rita Edochie to Court
Nollywood actress Judy Austin has sued her colleague, Rita Edochie, over alleged defamatory statements made against her. Judy filed a Writ of Summons before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Judicial Division. She is asking the court to award her N1 billion in general damages over the alleged defamation.
The actress also wants Rita to publish a full and unreserved retraction and apology. She wants the apology published in at least two widely circulated national newspapers. Judy is also asking for the apology to appear on Rita’s social media platforms. In addition, she wants the alleged defamatory statements removed from all online platforms.
Judy Seeks Protection From Further Alleged Defamation
Judy is also asking the court to stop Rita from making or sharing further statements she considers defamatory. She wants Rita restrained from publishing or circulating such content in any form. Furthermore, the actress is demanding N50 million as the cost of prosecuting the suit.
The court papers reportedly state that Rita has 30 days after receiving the writ to enter an appearance. She can do so personally or through a legal practitioner. The lawsuit adds another twist to the ongoing public drama surrounding Judy and members of the Edochie family.
Judy Austin Also Sues Ex-Husband Emmanuel Obasi
Meanwhile, Judy has filed another defamation lawsuit against her former husband, Emmanuel Obasi. She made the development public on social media while sharing the court papers. The actress accompanied the post with the caption,
“Enough is Enough.”
According to the court documents, Judy is demanding N1 billion in general damages from Obasi. She is also seeking N500 million in aggravated damages over alleged defamatory posts made against her. Another N500 million is being demanded as exemplary damages.
Actress Demands Apology and Removal of Alleged Defamatory Posts
Judy wants Obasi and his agents restrained from publishing further allegedly defamatory content about her. She is also asking for all alleged defamatory posts about her to be removed from his social media platforms. In addition, she wants him to publish a full and unreserved apology in at least two widely circulated national newspapers and on his social media platforms.
The actress is also seeking N100 million as the cost of prosecuting the action. Judy was previously married to Obasi before their relationship ended. She later married actor Yul Edochie.
The latest lawsuits have now added another major development to the actress’s eventful public life.
