The Kano State Government gave N290 million to 5,800 women across 44 local government areas. Kano empowers 5,800 women with this financial support to boost small businesses and reduce local poverty.
Each selected woman received N50,000 through the Monthly Women’s Empowerment and Poverty Relief Programme.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf launched the cash distribution in Kano. He said the project helps poor families cope with economic hardship and build long-term self-reliance.
Scope of the Empowerment Initiative
The project operates under the wider Kano First Initiative. It aims to empower local women and build stronger communities.
Governor Yusuf said
“Monthly cash payments will continue through December. I urge every recipient to invest these funds into small trading businesses to sustain their families. Thank you for your continued political support, stay active in civic life, and vote wisely in upcoming elections.”
State Officials and Traditional Leaders React
Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo said the administration has fulfilled almost 97 percent of its campaign promises. He highlighted major improvements in healthcare, basic education, and regional road construction.
Garo praised the governor for focusing on women’s welfare. In particular, he noted that these grants will boost commercial activity across both rural and urban areas.
Meanwhile, the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, offered full support from traditional leaders. Furthermore, he advised recipients to spend the money wisely to improve their family finances. The Emir also praised state investments in health, education, and land compensation for the new Federal Polytechnic in Gaya.
Similarly, the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Bunkure, called Governor Yusuf a strong supporter of female development. Specifically, she noted that targeted cash grants give women true financial independence and allow them to contribute to society.
Overall, top government officials, traditional leaders, and political stakeholders attended the ceremony. Additionally, Jibrin Falgore, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and female leaders from across the state attended the event. Ultimately, they agreed that this program creates lasting economic growth across all 44 council areas.
