Family Dispute Turns Violent in Hotoro Area
A 28-year-old woman, Maryam Muhammad, has allegedly set her co-wife, Firdausi Musa, and her two children on fire in Kano State. The attack also injured the children’s father during rescue efforts.
The incident happened late Monday night in the Mai Allo area of Hotoro Quarters in Kano metropolis. Residents described the event as shocking and disturbing.
Police have taken the suspect into custody at the Mariri Police Division as investigations continue.
Victims Suffer Severe Burns, Receive Hospital Treatment
Firdausi Musa and her two children, Khadija Ya’u (7) and Ismail Ya’u (3), suffered severe burns in the attack. Medical teams are treating them at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, and Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
Their father, Malam Saminu, also sustained burns while trying to rescue them from the fire. Doctors are currently treating him alongside the other victims.
Family members said emergency responders rushed the victims to hospital after the attack.
Family Says Co-Wife Earlier Issued Threats
A relative, Buhari Musa Sa’ad, said the family received a distress call around 3 a.m. about the incident. He explained that the co-wife allegedly carried out the attack after earlier threats.
According to him, Firdausi had spent less than two weeks in the marriage before the incident occurred.
He added that the two injured children came from her previous marriage and lived with her in the new home.
Another relative, Rukayya, said the suspect had earlier threatened the victim. She also claimed the victim reported ongoing tension before the attack.
“We were lying down when she was brought in. She said her co-wife poured petrol on her and set her on fire,” she stated.
She added that the victim briefly left the house earlier that day due to safety concerns but returned after her husband intervened.
Police Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have not yet released an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report. However, police sources confirmed that the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.
