President William Ruto will visit the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos on Friday. The visit comes ahead of Kenya’s new refinery project in Lamu. Aliko Dangote will host the Kenyan president at the Lekki facility. The visit will also strengthen ties between Dangote and Kenya.
Ruto and Dangote are expected to break ground for the new refinery on September 30. The proposed Lamu refinery will have a capacity of 700,000 barrels per day. The project aims to boost fuel supply across East Africa. It will also create jobs and support Kenya’s industrial growth.
Ruto recently announced that Kenya was ready to begin the project. He made the announcement after meeting Dangote and Africa Finance Corporation CEO Samaila Zubairu.
“We are ready to break ground on the East Africa refinery in Lamu,” Ruto stated.
He said the project would improve energy security and create new economic opportunities.
Meanwhile, Dangote plans to expand his refining operations across Africa. The company aims to raise the Lekki refinery’s capacity from 700,000 to 1.4 million barrels daily.
Together with the proposed Kenyan refinery, Dangote targets 2.1 million barrels per day. The projects could also reduce Kenya’s reliance on imported petroleum products.
