Former Senate Deputy President Ovie Omo-Agege says Delta State could give Peter Obi strong support in 2027. He blamed worsening living conditions for the expected support.
Omo-Agege spoke in Asaba during the opening of the NDC Delta campaign secretariat.
Peter Obi, Chris Iyovwaye and other party leaders attended the event. He said poor power supply, unemployment and weak healthcare had worsened since 2023. According to him, these issues could influence voters again.
“For that reason, we have resolved, Your Excellency, that not only are we going to stand to vote for you, but we are also going to stand to protect your vote.”
The former senator also predicted victories for the NDC across Delta State. He said the party would target all three senatorial seats and most House of Representatives seats. Omo-Agege also backed Iyovwaye for governor. He said the party had resolved to make him Delta’s next governor.
Obi Promises Better Development for Niger Delta
Meanwhile, Obi promised greater transparency if elected president in 2027. He said citizens would know how public funds are spent under his administration. The former Anambra governor also promised better healthcare and infrastructure.
Obi pointed to the East-West Road as an example of the region’s infrastructure problems. He said the Niger Delta had contributed greatly to Nigeria’s wealth. However, he argued that the region had not received enough development.
“One thing I can assure the Niger Delta is that the days when you do not see the impact of your wealth are gone,” Obi said.
He also promised to improve hospitals and reduce medical trips abroad.
NDC Candidate Highlights Delta’s Challenges
Iyovwaye said Deltans face poor roads, insecurity and unemployment. He urged residents to take the 2027 election seriously.
“We cannot leave this country the way it is. 2027 is our year,” he said.
Similarly, NDC House of Representatives candidate Obiuwevbi Ominimini questioned the impact of government revenue allocations. He asked why Nigerians see little development despite regular revenue sharing.
The campaign office opening marks the start of the NDC’s mobilisation efforts in Delta ahead of the 2027 elections.
