Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has backed the Catholic Bishops over the position they presented during their recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. Kwankwaso praised the clerics for what he described as their courage and patriotism in speaking about the challenges confronting Nigerians.
Kwankwaso defends bishops
In a post on his verified X account, the former Kano State governor rejected suggestions that the bishops’ concerns were politically motivated. He said their observations on the rising cost of living, insecurity, declining public confidence and economic hardship reflected the daily realities experienced by millions of Nigerians. According to him, the concerns raised by the bishops cut across every region of the country.
“I commend the Catholic Bishops for their courage and patriotism. It is through such collective commitment and responsible leadership that we can build a more peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria.”
Raises concerns over hardship
Kwankwaso said many Nigerians continue to struggle with economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity and limited access to quality education and healthcare. He added that the country possesses abundant human and natural resources but has yet to translate them into better living conditions for citizens. According to him, the situation requires urgent, sincere and people-centred responses from those in leadership.
Calls for constructive engagement
The former governor urged Nigerians to continue engaging the Federal Government and leaders at all levels on issues affecting the country. He also called for greater accountability and policies that prioritise the security, welfare and prosperity of the people. Kwankwaso concluded by praying for peace and progress in Nigeria, expressing hope that responsible leadership would help build a more united and prosperous nation.
