Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamza Al-Madani, who served as a muezzin at Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah, has passed away after reportedly making his final call to prayer on Monday.
Inside the Haramain announced his death in an early Monday post on X. The announcement stated that Al-Madani gave his last Adhan at Masjid Al-Haram on 11 Rabi Al-Awwal 1448 AH. His final call to prayer brought an end to his service at the Sacred House, marking a significant loss for the mosque.
His funeral prayer was scheduled for after the Asr prayer on Monday at Masjid Al-Haram. He was due to be laid to rest at Al-Mu‘alla Cemetery in Makkah.
Al-Madani joined the official ranks of Masjid Al-Haram’s muezzins in 1439 AH, corresponding to 2017–2018. He was born in Madinah in 1397 AH (1976) and was raised in a religious household. From an early age, he developed a deep attachment to the Adhan. His paternal grandfather, a memoriser of the Qur’an, was said to have had a major influence on his religious education and upbringing.
At 15, Al-Madani began calling the Adhan at a local mosque in Madinah. He shared the duty with three other young men, rotating the calls while pursuing his studies. He later left the position temporarily due to teaching responsibilities outside Madinah.
His Return is the Role
In 1428 AH (2007–2008), he was asked to return to the role at Masjid Al-Maddah. He continued serving there until he was appointed to Masjid Al-Haram roughly ten years later. Because he spent his early years in Madinah, Al-Madani was particularly shaped by the Madinan form of the Adhan. His visits to Makkah with his father also gave him an opportunity to learn the distinctive Makkan style.
On those journeys, he reportedly met Sheikh Abdul Latif Mulla, a former muezzin of Masjid Al-Haram who had been a friend of Al-Madani’s grandfather.
After announcing his passing, Inside the Haramain asked Allah to shower Al-Madani with mercy and accept his service as a muezzin at the Sacred House.
