Michael Olise scored a stunning late solo goal as France defeated Belgium to make it two wins from two in the Nations League under new manager Zinedine Zidane.
Zidane made nine changes to the side that beat Turkey on Friday, but France struggled to break down a determined Belgian defence in Brussels. With the game heading towards a draw, Olise produced the decisive moment in the 88th minute.
The Bayern Munich winger controlled the ball on his shoulder inside his own half before launching a powerful run up the pitch. He beat a defender for pace and composure before calmly placing the ball into the bottom corner.
France had created several opportunities throughout the match but were unable to take advantage of most of them. Desire Doue was particularly influential for France and came close to opening the scoring on several occasions. The youngster had five attempts, including one that struck the crossbar.
France debutant Lucas da Cunha also went close, hitting the post as the visitors continued to threaten. Belgium created chances of their own, with wingers Mika Godts and Dodi Lukebakio causing problems for a relatively inexperienced French defence. However, neither player could find a way through as France held on for victory.
The result leaves France at the top of Nations League Group A1 after two matches.
