Michael Olise scored a stunning goal as France drew with Italy in the Nations League, in Zinedine Zidane’s first home match as Les Bleus manager.
Olise opened the scoring at the Stade de France with a superb strike from outside the penalty area. Rayan Cherki rolled a free-kick into his path before the Bayern Munich forward unleashed a shot that went in off the underside of the crossbar.
The goal continued Olise’s impressive run with the national team. The Bayern Munich forward has now been involved in 14 goals in 15 appearances for France this year.
Italy responded through Alessandro Bastoni after he dispossessed Lucas da Cunha before advancing towards goal. The defender then beat France goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a shot from the edge of the box to level the contest.
France were reduced to 10 men late in the match when Dayot Upamecano received a second yellow card. The result ended Zidane’s perfect start to the international break at home. This comes after France had won their previous two matches on the road.
Italy have now recorded one win, one draw and one defeat since Roberto Mancini returned as head coach.
Elsewhere in Group A1, Belgium recorded a 3-0 victory over Turkey under new manager Mark van Bommel.
