Miss Austria 2024 Lucia Sisic has died at just 22 years old. The beauty queen lived with a congenital heart condition throughout her life. Her death was announced by Mission Austria on Monday. The organisation runs the Miss Austria and Mister Austria pageants.
“It is with great shock and deep sorrow that we have learned of the passing of our Miss Austria 2024, Lucia Sisic,” it said.
Her cause of death has not been confirmed.
Sisic won the Miss Austria crown in 2024. She remained the reigning winner because no new contest had been held. Mission Austria also shared an emotional tribute to the late beauty queen.
“We will remember Lucia as a wonderful young woman,” the organisation said.
It also sent condolences to her family and friends. The group added that she would always remain part of the Miss Austria family.
Meanwhile, Sisic had been open about her health struggles. She revealed that her first operation happened shortly after her birth. She later underwent seven surgeries because of her heart condition. Speaking to Austrian outlet Heute in 2024, she explained how the condition shaped her childhood.
“Sports weeks took place without me. My childhood was simply different, but it also made me strong,” she said.
Despite the challenges, Sisic built a fulfilling life and became a beauty queen.
Herzkinder Österreich, a charity supporting children with heart conditions, also mourned her death. The organisation described Sisic as a brave and joyful young woman.
“At just 22 years old, she left us far too soon,” it said.
Sisic had also thanked the doctors who cared for her over the years. She said their efforts repeatedly saved her life. Her story showed how she turned years of pain into strength. Her journey as Miss Austria inspired many people who faced similar health challenges.
