Music video director TG Omori has opened up about the huge cost of treating kidney failure. He explained how dialysis changed his view of money and time.
According to Omori, serious health challenges can quickly drain a person’s finances. He made the disclosure during a recent interview with the Afropolitan Podcast.
Omori said his treatment has cost him “a lot of crazy money.” He explained that dialysis can cost about ₦70,000 per session at some hospitals. However, his treatment costs around ₦150,000 to ₦200,000 per session. He said the higher cost comes from using exclusive private facilities. Patients may also need dialysis three times every week.
As a result, the weekly bill can reach about ₦500,000. Omori noted that complications can push the cost even higher. Extra tests and medications can also increase the hospital bill. He explained that patients may spend about ₦600,000 weekly in some cases. Over one year, that could reach roughly ₦31 million. For someone earning ₦1 million monthly, the cost becomes almost impossible to sustain.
Beyond the money, Omori said patients also need strong financial support from others. Many people must wait months for a kidney transplant while continuing dialysis. Therefore, he believes money can make a major difference during a health crisis.
“Even though money can’t buy happiness, but money can still buy some time,” he concluded.
