Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has claimed that the Psquare reunion with his twin brother, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy), affected his social media growth.
The singer made the revelation during a recent interview, where he reflected on his career before and after the group’s comeback.
Mr P Speaks on Decline in Follower Growth
According to Mr P, his social media platforms experienced rapid growth before the Psquare reunion.
He explained that he gained as many as 100,000 followers daily during that period. Furthermore, he ranked among Nigeria’s most influential entertainers online, alongside stars like Davido and Don Jazzy.
However, he said the momentum slowed shortly after the reunion.
“If I do my calculations, I used to have 100k followers daily back then. After Davido, it was me and Don Jazzy leading in followers. My followers stopped growing after the reunion with my twin brother,” he said.
Although he linked the slowdown to the reunion, he admitted he could not say for certain if it was the sole reason.
Singer Previously Rejected Calls to Retire
Meanwhile, Mr P recently responded to critics who suggested he should retire from music because of his age.
A social media user argued that the singer was too old to continue performing. Consequently, the comment sparked debate among fans.
In response, Mr P defended his career and pointed to global stars who remain active well into their later years.
According to him, some critics only want to discredit his solo journey.
Mr P Insists Solo Career Is Thriving
The singer also stressed that he remains focused on his individual success.
Furthermore, he revealed that he signed a multi-million-dollar international distribution deal covering three albums over five years.
Mr P maintained that his solo career has brought him some of the best experiences of his life.
He also announced that his upcoming project, OG Forever, will be released later this year.
“As for this solo journey, it’s one of the best things that has ever happened in my life. Nobody can stop this movement. The train has left the station. It’s Mr P Forever,” he stated.
Fans React to Mr P’s Comments
Following the interview, social media users shared mixed reactions.
While some supported Mr P’s position, others argued that Rudeboy enjoyed stronger success both before and after the reunion.
The comments once again highlighted the ongoing division among fans of the former Psquare duo, whose relationship has remained a major topic of discussion since their split.
