NCAA fines RwandAir N15 million over an unresolved baggage complaint and orders the airline to replace a damaged bag and pay $170 compensation.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has fined RwandAir N15 million over an unresolved baggage complaint. The airline allegedly failed to settle the passenger’s complaint within the required timeframe.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, announced the sanction on X on Friday, September 11.
“The NCAA has sanctioned Rwand Air for consumer protection-related infractions,” he said.
Achimugu added that the airline failed to resolve the baggage issue within the stipulated timeframe.
Besides the fine, the NCAA ordered RwandAir to replace the passenger’s damaged bag. The airline must also pay $170 as first-need compensation. The regulator based the directive on Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023. Meanwhile, the latest sanction shows the NCAA’s tougher approach to passenger rights.
The regulator had warned airlines about possible sanctions in February 2025. That warning followed similar action against five airlines in December 2024. Those airlines included Air Peace, Ethiopian Airlines, Arik Air, Aero Contractors and Royal Air Maroc. Their alleged violations involved refunds, baggage problems, delays and cancellations. Saudi Airlines also received a N6 million fine over unresolved consumer complaints and failure to follow NCAA directives.
