Netflix Sued Over ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ by Christian Metal Band

Christian metal band Demon Hunter has sued Netflix over the KPop Demon Hunters name, alleging trademark infringement and unfair competition.

Demon Hunter Takes Netflix to Court

Christian metal band Demon Hunter is suing Netflix over the name KPop Demon Hunters. The band claims the hit animated movie is hurting its brand. Hyde Lane, the company behind Demon Hunter, filed the lawsuit in California.

The case also names Netflix Studios and concert promoter AEG Presents. Netflix is working with AEG on a global KPop Demon Hunters concert tour. The tour is expected to begin in 2027.

Band Claims Customers Are Confused

According to the lawsuit, the Netflix franchise now goes beyond film and music. It also covers merchandise and live entertainment. Demon Hunter says those areas overlap with its own business.

The band says the confusion is already affecting fans. One parent reportedly spent almost $500 on Demon Hunter concert tickets by mistake. The parent thought the tickets were for a KPop Demon Hunters show.

The lawsuit also mentions a television producer who contacted Demon Hunter by mistake. The producer wanted an interview with a songwriter linked to the Netflix project.

Netflix Pushes Back

Demon Hunter wants the court to stop Netflix from using KPop Demon Hunters for music, merchandise and live shows. It also wants damages and a jury trial.

Netflix, however, has rejected the claims. The company told CNN,

“These allegations are without merit.”

Netflix also said it would “vigorously defend” the case.

Meanwhile, the franchise continues to grow. Netflix says KPop Demon Hunters has passed 600 million views since its June 2025 release. That makes it the platform’s biggest original title.

A Major Music and Streaming Battle

The film’s soundtrack has reportedly passed 15 billion streams worldwide. It also became the only title to spend 52 straight weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10.

Demon Hunter has operated for about 25 years. Its next tour starts in Louisville, Kentucky, on October 7.For now, the legal fight could decide how far the KPop Demon Hunters brand can expand.
