Neymar Retires From Brazil After World Cup Exit Against Norway

The Brazilian star says his international journey has ended following Brazil’s defeat to Norway.

Neymar has announced the end of his Brazil career after the Selecao were knocked out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup by Norway in the last 16. The 34-year-old made the emotional announcement after Brazil lost 2-1, with his late penalty proving only a consolation.

The forward came on as a 67th-minute substitute with Brazil already trailing by two goals. Speaking after the match, Neymar told TV Globo: “I tried, I tried. Now it’s over. I started here, I finished here.”

Neymar made his Brazil debut in 2010 and leaves as the country’s all-time leading scorer with 80 goals. He also finishes his international career with 130 appearances, second only to Cafu’s 142 caps.

Brazil’s World Cup exit closes the curtain on one of the greatest international careers in the nation’s football history.
