Nigeria has been confirmed as the host nation for the 2026 CAF Awards, with Lagos selected to stage African football’s biggest annual awards ceremony.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that the event will return to Nigeria for the first time since 2015.
The ceremony will take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, Lagos.
CAF has not yet confirmed the official date for the event. Nigeria is also scheduled to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in October. However, it remains unclear whether both events will be held during the same period.
The CAF Awards celebrate the best performers in African football across club and international competitions.
Each year, the ceremony honours outstanding players, coaches, clubs and national teams for their achievements during the previous football season.
The 2026 edition is expected to feature awards for the African Men’s Player of the Year and African Women’s Player of the Year. That alongside honours for the continent’s top goalkeepers, coaches and young talents.
Awards are also anticipated for the best men’s and women’s interclub players, outstanding clubs, national teams and the Goal of the Year.
The African Player of the Year award is expected to remain the headline prize of the evening. It recognises the continent’s most outstanding footballer.
Hosting the ceremony marks another major football milestone for Nigeria, with Lagos set to welcome some of the biggest names in African football.
CAF is expected to announce the official ceremony date and the complete list of award categories in the coming months.
