Actor Kunle Remi Reacts to Lagos flooding, says “Nigerians are dirty people.”
Actor Kunle Remi has shared his thoughts on the recurring flooding in Lagos. According to him, poor waste disposal is one of the biggest reasons many parts of the state go underwater whenever heavy rain falls.
The actor reacted after a downpour flooded areas like Gbagada, Oshodi, Agungi, and Ilupeju. Refuse and debris were also seen floating across several roads. As a result, Kunle Remi took to his Instagram Story to call on Lagos residents to change their attitude toward waste disposal.
“We are dirty people; let’s stop throwing trash in drainages, stop blocking the drainages, we are not animals. Speak up against it; if you see someone doing it, correct them. Why won’t it flood?” he wrote.
He added that flooding is no longer limited to Lekki, saying, “Nigerians are dirty people, and that’s why there’s flood everywhere. I saw in the news that Gbagada is flooded; this is no longer a Lekki thing. Agungi, Ilupeju is flooded.”
Furthermore, the actor warned that the situation could become worse if people refuse to change.
“It’s getting worse; at a point, everyone in Lagos will soon start getting trucks. Try and get a truck or SUV. If we all do the right thing, if we can speak to those that we see do it, it will make things better because this flooding is just dirtiness.”
His comments have sparked conversations online. Many agree that proper waste disposal and cleaner surroundings can help reduce flooding. Some others believe poor drainage systems and inadequate infrastructure also play major roles.
