Ogun State governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Abayomi Hunye, has criticised the party over his suspension ahead of the 2027 election. Hunye questioned the decision during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday. He said the APC could not suspend him after accepting N50 million from him for its governorship nomination form.
Hunye challenges APC suspension
Hunye said the party cleared him to participate in the governorship screening after he completed the required documentation. He explained that his name appeared as number 52 on the screening list. He also said the party recognised him as a valid candidate during the May 21 primary election.
According to Hunye, the APC had suspended him on April 7 but later accepted payment for his nomination and expression of interest forms.
“How can you suspend me on April 7 and, on April 28, collect money from me and give me a form?” Hunye asked.
He said he completed and returned both forms after receiving them. He added that he still had the payment receipt as evidence of the transaction.
APC backs Solomon Adeola
The dispute comes after the APC rejected Hunye’s claim to the Ogun governorship ticket. The party has instead recognised Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
Hunye, however, maintains that he remains a legitimate contender within the party. His latest comments have therefore added to the disagreement over the APC’s choice of candidate for the election. The controversy could further test the party’s internal unity in Ogun State as political activities ahead of the 2027 election intensify.
