Security Tightened Ahead of Annual Cultural Celebration
The Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State has deployed over 2,500 personnel for the 2026 Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu-Ode.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, announced the deployment on Thursday in Abeokuta.
He said the command introduced the security measures to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.
Tactical Units Join Security Operation
Ojajuni explained that the deployment includes conventional officers and tactical units.
These units include the Police Mobile Force, Special Weapons and Tactics team, and the Violent Crime Response Unit.
In addition, the command deployed surveillance teams, rapid response squads, and undercover operatives.
The police also stationed Armoured Personnel Carriers, patrol vehicles, and motorcycles across strategic areas.
Police Cover Key Locations Across Ijebu-Ode
According to the commissioner, officers will monitor major locations throughout the festival period.
These areas include the Ojude Oba pavilion, highways, worship centres, motor parks, and hotels.
Security teams will also patrol markets, recreational centres, residential areas, and entry points into the city.
As a result, the command aims to strengthen crowd control and improve emergency response.
Command Intensifies Patrol and Intelligence Gathering
Ojajuni said tactical commanders and divisional officers have received orders to remain on maximum alert.
Furthermore, the police will conduct stop-and-search operations and aggressive patrols across major routes.
The operation will focus strongly on the Sagamu Interchange, Molipa axis, and the Ijebu Ode-Benin motorway.
The commissioner added that officers will support traffic management and early threat detection.
Police Warn Criminals to Stay Away
Meanwhile, the police warned criminal elements against disrupting the cultural event.
Ojajuni stressed that the command remains ready to deal decisively with troublemakers.
He also urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
Stakeholders Join Security Efforts
The police command said it has strengthened collaboration with traditional rulers and community leaders.
Transport unions, event organisers, and other stakeholders are also supporting intelligence gathering efforts.
Consequently, the command expects smooth coordination throughout the celebration period.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the police commitment to protecting lives and property across Ogun State.
