A swift police operation in Akure stops a suspected bomb plot before execution.

Ondo police arrest: Recovered items

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspects over an alleged plan to vandalise government infrastructure in Akure, the state capital. Police say the operation followed credible intelligence on a criminal network operating within and beyond the state.

Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal confirmed that the suspects were apprehended on April 15, 2026, before they could carry out the attack. Officers also recovered materials believed to be components for improvised explosive devices (IEDs), along with other items linked to coordinated criminal activity.

Recovered items include bottles, bags of sugar, mobile phones, laptops, cash, identity cards, and tools suspected to be used in assembling explosives. Investigators also found documents outlining potential targets, suggesting a planned and organised operation.

The suspects are currently in custody, while investigations continue to identify possible collaborators and sponsors. Police say the suspects will be charged in court once the probe is complete.

Authorities have urged residents and property owners to remain vigilant. Landlords were advised to properly screen tenants to prevent criminal groups from using residential areas as operational bases.

The development highlights ongoing security efforts in Ondo State to disrupt organised crime and prevent attacks on public infrastructure.
