Bernardo Silva will leave Manchester City at the end of the season, bringing an end to one of the most successful spells in the club’s modern history. The Portuguese midfielder, whose contract expires this summer, confirmed his departure after eight trophy-laden years at the Etihad.

Since joining from AS Monaco in 2017, Silva has made over 450 appearances, scoring 76 goals and providing 77 assists. He has played a central role in City’s dominance under Pep Guardiola, winning six Premier League titles, a historic treble in 2022–23, and multiple domestic trophies. Last month’s Carabao Cup triumph marked his 15th major honour with the club.

Silva, who became captain following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne, described his time at City as a“legacy” he will always cherish. Known for his versatility and relentless work rate, he evolved from an attacking midfielder into a deeper, more tactical role, becoming one of Guardiola’s most trusted players.

His exit signals the end of an era for City, who are currently second in the league and still competing in the FA Cup. The club now faces the challenge of replacing not just a player, but a leader on and off the pitch.

Silva’s departure leaves a lasting imprint on Manchester City’s golden era—and a gap that will not be easily filled.
