Tosin Odeyemi resigns as Osun NNPP chairman, joins Democratic Leadership Alliance

The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State, Tosin Odeyemi, has resigned from the party. He has also accepted his appointment as the acting chairman of the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) in the state.

Odeyemi, a political ally of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 16, 2026. However, he did not give any reason for leaving the party.

Odeyemi announces resignation

Odeyemi addressed the resignation letter to the NNPP National Chairman. In the letter, he requested that the party remove his name and details from its membership register.

The letter read:

“I do hereby resign from your party. Delete my names and details from your register.”

DLA names Odeyemi acting chairman

Meanwhile, Odeyemi unveiled his new political platform on Saturday. He also confirmed that he had accepted his appointment as the pioneer acting chairman of the DLA in Osun State.

The appointment came in a letter dated July 17, 2026. DLA National Chairman Samuel Memeh signed the letter after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) approved the appointment.

The letter stated:

“Following the approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and acting pursuant to the powers of the National Chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) under the Constitution of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), you are hereby appointed as the Acting State Chairman (Protem) of the Osun State Chapter of the Party with immediate effect.”

Furthermore, the letter directed Odeyemi to establish party structures across Osun State. It also asked him to uphold the party’s constitution and report regularly to the National Working Committee.

Odeyemi pledges transparent leadership

Speaking with The PUNCH, Odeyemi thanked the DLA National Chairman, the NEC and the National Working Committee for the confidence reposed in him.

He said:

“I accept this responsibility with humility and a deep sense of duty. Our immediate task is to bring every genuine member together, ensure discipline, and make the DLA a credible alternative for the people of Osun who are yearning for purposeful leadership.”

In addition, he promised to lead the Osun chapter with transparency. He also called on party members and stakeholders to support the new platform.

Odeyemi recently won another NNPP term

Earlier, the NNPP conducted its state congress in Osogbo. During the exercise, delegates re-elected Odeyemi as the party’s chairman for another four-year term.

INEC officials monitored the congress. Representatives of the party’s national leadership also attended the event.

Besides Odeyemi, the party elected Adekunle Abolade as deputy chairman, Hisa Oladeji as secretary and Mofolasayo Makinde as treasurer. It also elected Aderonke Aderemi as financial secretary, Olanrewaju Hassan as internal auditor, Olayode Abidemi as youth leader, Ajileye Balikis as women leader and Olayode Olawumi as legal adviser.
