Teachers in Oyo State will enjoy a work-free Monday as the government celebrates World Teachers’ Day.
The Oyo State Government declared Monday, October 5, 2026, free of work for all teachers across the state. The decision marks this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebration. A circular signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, announced the directive on Sunday.
According to a statement by Governor Seyi Makinde’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, the move shows the government’s support for teachers. He said the administration remains committed to their welfare, dignity and professional growth.
“The declaration reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, dignity and professional development of teachers,” he said.
The government also explained why it approved the work-free day. Teachers can use the break to attend activities planned for the celebration. They can also reflect on the education sector and connect with other teachers. The state further congratulated teachers and praised their role in developing Oyo’s education system. It also promised to keep supporting better teaching and learning across the state.
Meanwhile, Oyo is not the only state giving teachers a break. The Kwara and Ekiti State Governments also declared Monday, October 5, a work-free day for teachers. The move allows educators in the three states to mark World Teachers’ Day without regular work duties.
For many teachers, the gesture offers a welcome chance to relax, celebrate and feel appreciated for their work.
