Liverpool Parade Incident: Man Accused of Driving into Crowd Now Faces 24 Additional Charges
A man who allegedly plowed his vehicle into a crowd of football fans during Liverpool FC’s title parade in May is now facing a total of 31 criminal charges, following the addition of 24 new counts, a court has heard.
The incident occurred on May 26 during celebratory events in Liverpool, where large groups of supporters — including families and children — had gathered. Authorities allege that Paul Doyle, aged 53 and a resident of Croxteth, Liverpool, drove his Ford Galaxy into the assembled crowd, causing widespread panic and significant injuries.
How many victims were there from the car crash
More than 130 individuals were reportedly hurt during the incident, among them several children. According to prosecutors, the updated charges now reflect the gravity and scale of the alleged offence, as the list of victims includes people ranging in age from just six months to 77 years old.
Initially, Paul Doyle had been charged with seven offences, including two counts of wounding with intent to cause serious injury, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, and one charge of dangerous driving.
Where did Paul Doyle Hearing Hold?
However, during a hearing held on Thursday at Liverpool Crown Court, it was revealed that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had filed 24 additional charges. Six of these new allegations concern infants, including a six-month-old baby and a seven-month-old. Although the full details of the revised indictment were not read aloud in court, it now comprises 31 counts in total, associated with 29 individual victims.

The expanded charge sheet against Doyle includes 19 counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, seven counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, three counts of wounding with intent, one count of dangerous driving, and one count of affray.
Appearing via video link from prison, Doyle was visibly emotional during the brief 20-minute hearing and reportedly broke down in tears. He did not enter any pleas in response to the charges at this stage.
The presiding judge adjourned the proceedings until September 4, when Doyle is expected to return to court and formally enter his pleas.
The case continues to raise public concern given the number of victims involved and the presence of young children among the injured. Authorities have emphasized the seriousness of the incident, and the CPS is expected to present substantial evidence when the case proceeds to trial.
