Partial Cabinet Disband in Ekiti as Governor Oyebanji Retains Core Team

Ekiti State Governor Suspends Executive Council Ahead of June 2026 Election

With the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State fast approaching, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has announced the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council. The official notice was released late Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Habibat Adubiaro.

According to Adubiaro, the dissolution impacts all of the governor’s appointed commissioners and special advisers. These officials have been directed to hand over their briefs to the permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.

In the statement, Adubiaro expressed gratitude on behalf of the governor: “Governor Oyebanji thanks the affected members of the State Executive Council and wishes them success in their future endeavors,” she said.

Positions Gov. Oyebanji Dropped

However, several key positions were notably excluded from the shake-up. The following officials will remain in their current roles:

  • The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice
  • The Commissioner for Health and Human Services
  • The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security
  • The Commissioner for Education
  • The Commissioner for Works
  • The Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry, and Cooperatives
  • The Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion
  • The Special Adviser on Lands, Survey, and e‑GIS

Additionally, all Directors General serving on the State Executive Council will retain their positions. These include:

  • The Director General of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD)
  • The Director General of SDGs and Project Monitoring
  • The Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP)

Governor Oyebanji, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who took office on October 16, 2022, is seeking re-election and this early reorganization might be seen as a strategic realignment ahead of the campaign season.
