Patrick Brammall Joins The Devil Wears Prada 2 After Turning Down Audition

Aussie Star Lands Major Hollywood Role

Patrick Brammall has joined the cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2, which hits Australian cinemas this week.

He stars alongside Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. He plays Andy’s new love interest in the sequel.

The role marks a major Hollywood breakthrough for the Australian creator of Colin From Accounts.

Brammall First Said No to the Audition

Brammall revealed he initially turned down the audition when producers first contacted him.

He explained that the process felt uncertain and time-consuming. He also said he did not want to invest energy while working on other projects and raising his children.

He described the standard self-tape process and said most actors never receive feedback after auditions.

“I said no to the audition,” he told Nova 96.9’s Ricki-Lee & Tim. “No one’s gonna give me this role, so I’m not gonna waste my time.”

Surprise Role Offer Came Later

Despite declining the audition, Brammall received a direct offer a week later.

He joked about his unexpected success and compared it to “Stephen Bradbury” luck.

“I don’t know how many guys had to fall over for me to Stephen Bradbury my way into this film,” he said.

He confirmed that the casting team offered him the role without another audition.

Role Shifted From American to Australian Character

Brammall originally auditioned for an American character from Brooklyn.

He said he asked producers for details to prepare an accurate accent.

However, the production team later changed the role and allowed him to use his natural Australian accent.

“They said don’t worry about that. Just do your normal accent,” he explained at the Sydney premiere.

Sydney Premiere Highlights His Experience

Brammall attended the Sydney premiere at the State Theatre without the main Hollywood cast.

He described acting alongside major stars as surreal but exciting.

He said his biggest challenge involved staying calm while working with Hollywood icons.

“Anne Hathaway is my girlfriend – no worries!” he joked. He also said she told him to call her “Annie.”

Balancing Hollywood and Australian Success

Brammall continues to work on his hit series Colin From Accounts, which he co-created with his wife Harriet Dyer.

The show has received strong critical and commercial success. It also earned him a Silver Logie for Most Outstanding Actor in 2023.

He now balances international film roles with his ongoing television work in Australia.
