Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged church leaders across the country to remain steadfast in speaking truth to those in authority.
Obi made the call while addressing delegates at the opening of the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church of Nigeria in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Obi calls for moral leadership
In a post on his verified X account on Thursday, Obi encouraged church leaders to continue standing with ordinary Nigerians and advocating for justice, good governance and national progress.
He described the Church as one of Nigeria’s strongest voices of hope, conscience and moral leadership.
Urges prayers for leaders
Obi said he attended the conference alongside Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and members of the Methodist Church from across Nigeria and other countries.
He thanked God for sustaining the Methodist Church over the years and reflected on Nigeria’s enormous potential.
“I encourage the Church and its delegates to remain steadfast in speaking truth to power.”
The former Anambra State governor also urged church leaders to pray for political leaders.
According to him, such prayers should focus on asking God to touch the hearts of leaders so they will use public resources for the benefit of Nigerians.
Calls for a better Nigeria
Obi reiterated the need for leaders to govern with integrity and put the welfare of citizens first.
He also encouraged the Church to remain committed to promoting justice, accountability and good governance as Nigeria works towards a better future for all.
