A Nigerian gay couple has appealed to the public for help after claiming their lives are at risk. The couple, identified as Uchendu and his boyfriend, said they need financial support to leave Nigeria. They also hope to relocate to a safer country. Their appeal has since attracted attention online, with Nigerians sharing different opinions about their situation.
According to the couple, they have been living openly as a gay couple in Nigeria. However, they now claim their families, neighbours and colleagues are threatening them. They said the situation has become too dangerous for them to remain in the country. As a result, they are asking Nigerians to support their relocation plans. In a public appeal, the couple said,
“Nigerians come and help us, Me and my boyfriend Uchendu are not safe, we have both been living openly as a Gay couple but now we need your support to leave this country & relocate outside Nigeria, our family, neighbors & people at our work place are all after our lives.”
Meanwhile, the appeal has sparked mixed reactions across social media. Some users asked the couple to reveal their location so people could offer immediate assistance. Others, however, criticised their decision to seek money to relocate abroad.
Despite the different reactions, the couple continues to appeal for support. They say leaving Nigeria is now necessary for their safety.
