Apple iPhone Duo sparks a viral meme war over its price, design and foldable features, with Samsung and Duolingo joining the online jokes.
Apple’s first foldable iPhone has barely hit the spotlight, but the internet is already having fun with it. The new iPhone Duo has sparked a fresh meme war involving Samsung, Duolingo and other online users. Samsung mocked Apple’s late entry into the foldable-phone market. The company described the move as “reheating leftovers.”
Duolingo also joined the banter with a cheeky post.
“They named a phone after me and made it bend over,” the language-learning app joked.
Meanwhile, social media users have turned Apple’s latest launch into a meme festival. Many focused on the iPhone Duo’s unusual promotional images. Some users joked about the long-looking fingers holding the device. Others created Photoshop edits around the phone’s oversized appearance.
The jokes soon moved beyond the design as the price became the hottest feature. Interestingly, the phone’s price remains the biggest talking point. The price quickly triggered jokes about salaries, loans and even kidneys.
Some users joked that the word “Duo” means buyers need two incomes. IT workers also joined the trend with jokes about annual salaries and the phone’s price.
Beyond the memes, the iPhone Duo marks Apple’s biggest iPhone redesign in years.
The foldable phone opens into a 7.6-inch display and has a 5.4-inch outer screen. It supports two apps at once and works with Apple Pencil. The device uses Apple’s A20 Pro chip and a C2 modem. It also features Touch ID in the side button and a vapour-chamber cooling system.
Apple says the Duo is its thinnest iPhone when open. It also offers up to 2TB of storage, giving buyers plenty of space for the price.
