Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former Lagos gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has been declared the winner of the African Democratic Congress governorship primary for the office of the state governor.
In an online video seen by ALO 360, the returning officer for the primary announced that Rhodes-Vivour will be the party’s flagbearer for the state governorship election in 2027.
Rhodes-Vivour, who decamped to the ADC from the LP, will contend against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obafemi Hamzat, the deputy governor of the state.
Also expected in the race is Funsho Doherty, who is likely to clinch the ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In the 2023 Lagos election, Rhodes-Vivour polled 312,329 votes, taking second place after the candidate of the ruling APC, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who secured 762,134 votes. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Sanwo-Olu the winner.
