Russia Launches Major Ballistic Missile Attack on Kyiv, Killing One

Russia fired dozens of missiles and drones at Kyiv overnight, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

Russia launched one of its largest ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, since the start of the full-scale war, killing at least one person and injuring 14 others, Ukrainian officials said.

Ukraine’s military said Russia fired 41 missiles and 125 drones, including Iskander and hypersonic Zircon missiles. Air defence systems intercepted 18 missiles and 108 drones, but several struck residential and commercial areas. Fires broke out at warehouses, while a supermarket and a student dormitory were also damaged.

Ukraine Continues Deep Strikes Inside Russia

President Volodymyr Zelensky described the assault as one of the biggest ballistic attacks on Kyiv since Russia’s invasion began in February 2022. He said Moscow had launched about 1,450 attack drones, 1,640 guided bombs and 99 missiles against Ukraine over the past week.

The latest strike comes days after Ukrainian drones targeted two Wildberries warehouses in Russia, killing eight people. Kyiv says its long-range attacks are aimed at weakening Russia’s energy and military infrastructure. Its argument is that it helps finance the war.

The attack on Kyiv highlights the continuing escalation of the conflict as both countries intensify long-range strikes.
