History was made in London as Sabastian Sawe became the first man to run a legal sub-two-hour marathon.
Sabastian Sawe won the 2026 London Marathon in a world-record time of 1:59:30, becoming the first athlete to legally complete the 42.2km distance in under two hours.
The Kenyan runner beat the previous world record of 2:00:35, set by Kelvin Kiptum in 2023, by 1 minute and 5 seconds.
Just 11 seconds later, Yomif Kejelcha crossed the line in 1:59:41 to finish second and also break the two-hour mark.
Jacob Kiplimo placed third in 2:00:28, meaning the top three runners all finished faster than the previous world record.
The men’s marathon had never been completed in under two hours under official race conditions before this event.
Sawe’s remarkable run has rewritten marathon history and raised the standard of distance running worldwide.
