Police say security guard Amin Abdullah saved lives during the deadly attack at a San Diego mosque.
Amin Abdullah, a father of eight, is being hailed as a hero after he was killed during a shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday.
Police said Abdullah, who worked as a security guard at the mosque for more than a decade, acted bravely during the attack and helped prevent further casualties. Two other worshippers, Mansour Kaziha and Nader Awad, were also killed in the shooting.
Authorities said two teenage suspects carried out the attack before later dying from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Investigators are treating the incident as a possible hate crime after reports of hate-related rhetoric connected to the suspects.
Community members described Abdullah as a kind and welcoming figure who dedicated himself to protecting worshippers and helping others. An online fundraiser created for his family has already raised more than $1.6 million.
The deadly mosque shooting has sparked grief across San Diego, with tributes continuing to pour in for the victims and their families.
