Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has awarded N20m each to the best graduating students of Lagos State University for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions. Sanwo-Olu announced the cash gifts on Wednesday during LASU’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies at the university’s main campus in Ojo.
The beneficiaries are Ayilara Olawale, the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 session, and Adebanjo Oluolamide, who emerged as the best graduating student for the 2025/2026 session. Olawale studied Project Management Technology and graduated with a 4.96 CGPA and First Class Honours. Oluolamide, who studied Aerospace Engineering, finished with a 4.97 CGPA and also earned First Class Honours.
Sanwo-Olu announces N40m cash gifts
The governor said the N20m award for each student was his personal donation. He made the announcement while addressing graduates at the convocation ceremony.
“Ayilara Lawal Olawale and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, each one of you will earn 20 million naira each,” he said.
The two graduates will receive N20m each, bringing the total value of the governor’s gifts to N40m.
The announcement comes days after Oluolamide received another N10m cash prize from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme. He received the award after emerging as LASU’s overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session. LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, had earlier announced the two students as the university’s best graduating students for the two sessions.
The university said more than 20,000 students would graduate across the two academic sessions. The figure includes 494 first-class graduates.
Best students celebrate their achievements
Olawale, who earned a B.Tech (Honours) in Project Management Technology, attributed his achievement to divine grace.
“Grateful beyond words to graduate as the Best Graduating Student of Lagos State University, Ojo, for the 2024/2025 Session. Every victory was by Allah’s grace. Here’s to bigger dreams, impact, and a lifetime of excellence,” he wrote on X.
Oluolamide also celebrated his achievement after graduating with a 4.97 CGPA in Aerospace Engineering.
“4.97 / 5.00 CGPA. First Class Honours in Aerospace Engineering at Lagos State University. Official Senate Approval,” he wrote.
He added:
“All glory to God for His grace, wisdom, and strength every step of the way. What God cannot do does not exist!”
