The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned motorists about a new scam involving fake road traffic offence messages. The Corps said scammers are sending unsolicited text messages to members of the public. These messages claim recipients have new “road traffic offence records” requiring urgent action.
According to the FRSC, the messages are spreading through mobile phones and social media platforms. They also contain links to a fake website. The website copies the digital identity of the Federal Road Safety Corps. As a result, unsuspecting motorists may mistake the platform for an official FRSC service.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, issued the warning in a statement. He said the FRSC does not recognise the messages or the website behind them. The Corps therefore urged motorists to treat such communications as fraudulent. It also advised the public not to click suspicious links or provide personal information.
Meanwhile, the FRSC urged Nigerians to remain alert when receiving traffic-related messages. Motorists should verify unusual notices through official FRSC channels before taking action.
The warning is especially important as scammers continue using familiar government identities online. Anyone who receives such a message should avoid the link and report the suspected scam.
