Thapelo Maseko’s second-half goal sends South Africa into the World Cup last 32 for the first time in history.

South Africa secured a historic place in the FIFA World Cup knockout stage after a 1-0 victory over South Korea in Monterrey. Thapelo Maseko scored the decisive goal in the second half, helping Bafana Bafana finish second in Group A behind Mexico.

Maseko found the net after controlling the ball inside the box and calmly finishing through a defender’s legs. South Africa created the better chances throughout the match and deserved all three points.

South Korea, meanwhile, must wait and hope to qualify as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.
