African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has declared that he will become Nigeria’s President after the 2027 general election.
Sowore made the declaration while reacting to the decision by the Department of State Services to seek an adjournment of his cybercrime case until after the election. The DSS directed its counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, to request the adjournment. The agency said the move would allow Sowore to participate fully in the electoral process.
Sowore reacts to DSS request
Reacting to the development, Sowore said he did not expect to continue dealing with the case after the 2027 election. He claimed that President Bola Tinubu and the Director-General of the DSS, Tosin Ajayi, would no longer remain in their current positions after the election.
Sowore made the comments while responding to the DSS decision to delay proceedings in the case.
“You won’t be taking my case anywhere after the 2027 election because both Bola Tinubu, on whose behalf you instituted these ridiculous charges, and Tosin Ajayi, the deeply insecure DG of the DSS who initiated these farcical cybercrime charges against me, will be gone after the election.
He further predicted that the political situation would change after the election. According to him, those who allegedly used government institutions against political opponents would face consequences.
“The political persecution will end, the abuse of state institutions will end, and those who weaponized public institutions against political opponents will have to answer for their actions.
“After the 2027 election, Sowore will be the President of Nigeria.
“No going back!”
DSS seeks adjournment of cybercrime case
The DSS case against Sowore followed social media posts he made in August 2025. In the posts, he referred to Tinubu as a “criminal”. Following the posts, the DSS approached the Federal High Court for a determination on whether the description amounted to cyber-bullying.
The agency has now asked the court to adjourn the matter until after the 2027 presidential election. Its counsel is expected to formally present the request when the Federal High Court resumes after its annual judicial vacation. The court is scheduled to resume normal sittings on September 14, 2026.
Sowore, meanwhile, is preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election under the African Action Congress. He has continued to position himself as an opposition candidate seeking to challenge the political establishment.
