The organisers of the Nigeria Spelling Bee have opened registration for the next edition of the national competition.
Parents and schools can now register eligible pupils and students for a chance to compete for scholarships, cash prizes and an opportunity to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee.
The organisers announced the development through the official Nigeria Spelling Bee registration portal.
Who can register?
According to the organisers, both individual participants and school groups can enter the competition.
“Get ready to embark on an exciting journey of language and literacy excellence. Whether you’re registering as a student or a school group, this is the first step toward showcasing your spelling skills on a national stage.”
They added:
“Complete the registration form from the links below to secure your spot in the competition and get closer to winning amazing prizes, including scholarships and the chance to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee.”
Eligibility requirements
The organisers advised parents and schools to confirm that participants meet the competition’s eligibility requirements before completing the registration process.
“Before proceeding with your registration, please ensure that you (or your students) meet all the eligibility requirements for the Nigeria Spelling Bee.“
They also warned that failure to meet the requirements could lead to disqualification.
“To avoid disqualification, we encourage you to review the Eligibility Page thoroughly before completing your registration.”
Registration fee
The registration fee is ₦5,000 for each participant.
Applicants can pay through bank deposits, bank transfers, ATMs or approved gift vouchers.
Parents and schools can begin the registration process through the official Nigeria Spelling Bee registration portal.
The organisers advised applicants to keep their payment receipts because they will need them during registration and on the competition day.
They also warned participants not to share their payment details with anyone.
According to the organisers, late registration or registration at the competition venue, where available, will attract an additional ₦1,000, bringing the total fee to ₦6,000.
Registration process
After making payment, every participant must complete an individual online registration.
The organisers explained that each speller must register separately.
Successful applicants will receive a unique Speller ID for identification during the competition.
Participants must also present their confirmation slips and proof of payment at the competition venue.
Scholarships and prizes
The organisers said winners will receive scholarships, cash prizes and international opportunities.
The Senior Category champion will receive a ₦1 million scholarship.
The Junior Category winner will receive a ₦500,000 scholarship.
The Primary Category champion will receive a ₦150,000 cash prize.
In addition, all finalists will represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee.
The national champions will also become Nigeria Spelling Bee ambassadors for life and receive trophies and medals.
Schools can also apply
Schools interested in hosting the competition can also submit applications to the organisers.
Furthermore, schools registering more than 10 participants can contact the organisers for information on bulk registration discounts.
The organisers reminded applicants to complete the online registration before receiving their Speller IDs and competition materials.
They also noted that all registration payments are non-refundable.
What happens next?
Parents, guardians and schools can complete registration through the official portal before the deadline announced by the organisers. Successful participants will receive their Speller IDs and proceed to the next stages of the Nigeria Spelling Bee competition.
