Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled an aggressive assault after terrorists attack Borno military base personnel in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area on on September 7, 2026.
Supported by the Nigerian Air Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), ground forces operating under Operation Hadin Kai thwarted the coordinated strike. Consequently, the heavy firepower forced Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters to retreat with major casualties.
The Acting Media Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Captain Mohammed Goni, confirmed the engagement in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

Goni explained that the insurgents launched the assault while troops were conducting routine operations.
However, ground forces held their positions firmly and engaged the advance with sustained superior firepower. As a result, the soldiers prevented any breach of the tactical location.
“Despite the intensity of the attack, the troops stood their ground and responded with sustained firepower,” Goni stated. He added that the fierce resistance forced the attackers to abandon their mission.
Air strikes target fleeing insurgents
Air support from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai provided vital surveillance during the battle.
Subsequently, jet fighters executed precision air strikes on the retreating fighters. This action disrupted their withdrawal and prevented them from regrouping. Meanwhile, local intelligence provided by the CJTF improved situational awareness throughout the confrontation.
One soldier sustained a gunshot wound to the left arm during the firefight. Medical personnel promptly evacuated the soldier, who remains in stable condition and is responding to treatment.

Following the withdrawal of the insurgents, ground troops began clearance and exploitation operations across the Pulka axis.
Currently, security forces are assessing the damage inflicted on the attackers. Furthermore, they are recovering abandoned military hardware and gathering intelligence for follow-up operations.
Goni highlighted that the outcome demonstrates the strong synergy between the Army, Air Force, and local vigilantes.
Additionally, he affirmed that troops remain on heightened alert. They are conducting aggressive patrols to deny criminal elements freedom of movement across the region.
Finally, the military high command urged the public to report suspicious movements to security agencies. They reiterated their commitment to restoring lasting peace to the North-East.
