President Bola Tinubu has praised Nigeria’s security agencies for rescuing pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oyo State after 56 days in captivity.

He commended the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other intelligence agencies for carrying out the operation. Tinubu said their efforts brought relief to the victims, their families and the entire country.

Tinubu hails rescue operation

In a statement released by the Presidency, Tinubu described the operation as a major success. He said close cooperation among the security agencies made the rescue possible.

“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, Ogbomoso in Oyo State today after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation.”

The President also expressed sympathy to the family of the late teacher, Michael Oyedokun, who lost his life during the victims’ captivity.

“My government will get justice for these children and their teachers and for the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who the terrorists gruesomely murdered.”

Tinubu pledged to bring everyone responsible for the attack to justice. He said the government would not relent until security agencies apprehend the remaining suspects.

Government promises support

The President directed relevant agencies to provide medical care and trauma counselling for the rescued pupils and teachers. He also instructed officials to work closely with the Oyo State Government during the recovery process.

Tinubu said his administration would continue strengthening security across the country. He added that the government remains committed to protecting schools and communities from criminal attacks.

Rescue ends weeks of anxiety

Gunmen abducted the pupils and teachers on May 15 after attacking three schools in the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area.

The victims’ release ended nearly two months of anxiety for their families. The incident had also triggered public outrage and renewed calls for stronger action against kidnapping.

What happens next?

Security agencies are continuing investigations into the attack. They are also tracking other members of the kidnapping gang as the Federal and Oyo State governments support the rescued victims’ recovery.
