Toke Makinwa advises men to date within their financial class. She explains why money reveals true character and warns against chasing women they cannot afford.
Nigerian media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has sparked fresh conversations about relationships and money. During a recent episode of the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, she shared her views on dating within one’s financial class.
According to her, many relationship problems begin when people pursue partners whose lifestyles they cannot comfortably afford. She believes choosing someone within your financial level can reduce unnecessary pressure and disappointment.
Speaking on the podcast, Toke said,
“I am a big believer of date within your wage and within your class. That way there will not be stories that touch.”
She added that many women stay loyal and supportive even during difficult times.
“You will have a good girl at home, a girl who will even make dinner with her own money when you don’t have. Yet, some men will still want to cheat on her with a woman they can’t afford,” she said.
She also argued that some men ignore caring partners while chasing women outside their financial reach.
The actress also shared why many women fear dating men who are still struggling financially. According to her, success sometimes exposes a person’s real character.
“Heaven forbid you end up with a guy who hasn’t blown. The day he blows that is when you will know his true personality. And that scares women,” she said.
She insisted that money does not change people but simply reveals who they truly are. Toke ended by saying many women who stood by their partners during hard times later suffered poor treatment after those men became successful.
“Money doesn’t change people, it just reveal who the person is. So many men are treating women who sacrificed everything for them badly,” she added.
Her comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with many people agreeing while others believe love should not be determined by income.
