Donald Trump says Iran and the US are moving closer to a possible agreement as both sides report progress in ongoing negotiations.
Donald Trump said Iran is “getting a lot closer” to reaching an agreement with the United States over the ongoing conflict, although both sides remain cautious about key unresolved issues.
Speaking to CBS News, Trump confirmed he had seen a draft agreement but declined to reveal details. He insisted that any final deal must completely prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Iran’s foreign ministry also acknowledged progress in negotiations. Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran and Washington had moved closer in recent days and were working on a 14-point framework that could lead to further talks within the next two months.
However, Baqaei warned that major disagreements remain, especially over nuclear-related issues. Iran also accused the US of sending mixed signals during the negotiations.
The renewed diplomatic momentum follows reports that Washington had considered additional military strikes after tensions escalated earlier this year. A temporary ceasefire between both countries has been in place since April.
Meanwhile, the US continues its naval blockade around Iranian ports, while Iran maintains control measures around the Strait of Hormuz.
