This year, the twins went full 1980s with the theme “Totally Two-bular!” Think neon colours, huge hair, matching tracksuits and serious shoulder pads.
But this is not just a weekend for taking funny pictures. Twins come from across America and other countries for the celebration. They join parades, contests, group photos and social events. Some families have also made the festival an annual tradition. For many visitors, it feels like finding a huge community of people who understand their unusual sibling bond. Here is the part that makes the festival even more fascinating. Twins Day started in 1976 with just 36 pairs of twins. The idea came during America’s bicentennial celebrations. Organisers wanted to honour Moses and Aaron Wilcox, twin brothers who helped establish the town. Their story also explains the name Twinsburg. The festival has since grown into a major international gathering for twins and other multiples.
