The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four men over an alleged plot to murder a businessman and take over his landed properties in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Obiora Nwankwo (38), Chiadikobi Okoye (36), Emmanuel Mboko (42), and Ifeanyi Obi (37), were arrested at different locations in Ukwulu and Amichi on Wednesday. The arrests followed intelligence gathered by the police. This was according to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga.
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu carried out the operation with Agunechemba security personnel attached. The security team reportedly disrupted the alleged plot after acting on what police described as credible intelligence. Two firearms and live ammunition were also recovered during the operation, according to the command.
Investigations
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the four suspects were allegedly linked to a plan to kill a businessman and subsequently take control of his landed properties. The command has not disclosed the identity of the businessman or provided further details about the alleged land dispute.
Ikenga said investigators were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged conspiracy and determine the specific roles played by each suspect. The police are also seeking to identify other people who may have been involved in the alleged plot.
The four suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue. Ikenga said the suspects would face the law after the conclusion of the investigation. That is, if sufficient evidence is established against them.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, described the arrests as evidence of the command’s renewed focus on intelligence-led policing.
