Tyson Fury has called Anthony Joshua a “coward” as negotiations for their long-awaited all-British heavyweight clash continue without a final venue agreement.
The two former world champions had been expected to meet in November. However, uncertainty over where the fight will be held now threatens the proposed date.
Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, have signed a contract for the bout to take place in the United Kingdom. However, organisers are reportedly pushing to stage the blockbuster fight in the United States.
Hearn has previously warned that the contracts would need to be renegotiated if the fight moves outside the UK.
The uncertainty has frustrated Fury, who said negotiations were becoming “quite tiring”. The 38-year-old said he had agreed to every location proposed during discussions, including England, Ireland, Las Vegas and New York.
“I’ve said yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, every single time. Zero stipulations,” Fury said.
He then turned his criticism directly towards Joshua, accusing his long-time rival of avoiding the fight.
“The facts are I feel like you’re being a coward,” Fury said.
“I feel like you don’t want the fight and you’re just conning everybody.”
Fury also claimed Joshua had been given several opportunities to face him but had never genuinely wanted the contest. He challenged the 36-year-old to finally commit to the bout.
In a separate social media post, Fury continued his taunts by posing alongside former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. He told Joshua to “sign the contract, big boy”, echoing one of Tyson’s famous boxing lines.
Fury has kept the proposed clash alive after defeating journeyman Mariusz Wach last month. His promoter, Frank Warren of Queensberry, also insisted that Fury remains fully committed to the fight.
“It is signed by Tyson,” Warren told Sky Sports News.
“Tyson is signed up for the fight and agreed for the fight.”
The location remains the major unresolved issue before the long-awaited British heavyweight showdown can be officially confirmed.
