Uganda denies Ebola outbreak after Nigeria confirms imported case in the Federal Capital Territory, raising fresh questions regarding cross-border health surveillance. Health officials in Kampala clarified that transiting through their country does not establish the origin of infection.

The Ministry of Health stated that establishing the exact source of exposure requires detailed travel data. Specifically, authorities are reviewing the patient’s travel itinerary, movement dates, and medical history.

Consequently, East and West African health agencies have escalated cross-border surveillance measures. Furthermore, public health teams are coordinating closely with regional disease control centers to verify all transit logs.

Uganda Denies Ebola Outbreak While Investigating Exposure Origin

Ugandan health officials emphasized that earlier infections were successfully controlled and declared over. Therefore, Ugandan authorities insist that no active community transmission exists within their borders.

“The location of exposure remains under investigation by epidemiological teams,” the Ugandan ministry noted. In addition, Ugandan border security activated heightened health screening at key entry points.

Meanwhile, international disease control organizations are supporting joint epidemiological trace efforts to monitor the situation.

Nigeria Escalates Surveillance and Contact Tracing

Nigeria’s Health Minister, Muhammad Ali Pate, confirmed that the female traveler returned from East Africa on October 7. She later developed symptoms, leading to her admission at a private hospital in Abuja.

Following laboratory confirmation, health officers placed the patient in strict isolation for specialized care. Furthermore, public health teams have identified and placed 44 close contacts under daily monitoring.

Finally, Nigerian authorities urged medical facilities to maintain high surveillance while reassuring citizens of robust containment.
