Minister of Works, David Umahi, has sued media personality Linda Ikeji and others for N2.5 billion. The suit follows alleged defamatory publications about the minister.
The case, marked GWD/CV/264/26, was filed on August 24, 2026. It was filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Judicial Division. Umahi named Stella Ifeoma Okengwu and Linda Ikeji TV Limited as defendants. He claims they published false and malicious content about him.
According to the case summary, the alleged publications appeared between March 2025 and March 2026. Umahi says some claims accused him of bribery and corruption. Other allegations included intimidation, sexual misconduct, land grabbing and sexual harassment. He also claims the publications questioned his fitness for public office.
Before filing the suit, Umahi reportedly demanded that the content be removed. He also demanded an unreserved public apology. The minister says the defendants did not meet those demands. Consequently, he wants the court to declare the publications defamatory. He also wants the defendants stopped from making similar publications.
In addition, Umahi is seeking N500 million in general damages and N2 billion in exemplary damages. He is asking for another N500 million as legal costs. He also wants 10 per cent annual interest on any judgment sum. The suit was filed by lawyers led by A. J. Owonikoko, SAN, of Synergy Attorneys.
As of the document’s preparation, the defendants had reportedly not been served. Therefore, the allegations remain claims before the court. The defendants can respond if they are served and enter their defence.
